VIIRS

The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) is an instrument on the SNPP satellite. It has 22 spectral channels ranging in wavelength from 412 nm to 12 µm. VIIRS collects visible and infrared imagery and radiometric measurements of the Earth’s land, atmosphere, cryosphere, and oceans. VIIRS data are used to measure cloud and aerosol properties, ocean color, sea and land surface temperature, ice motion and temperature, fires, and the Earth’s albedo. VIIRS makes AOT measurements with a maximum of 750 m spatial resolution. Other aerosol relevant VIIRS products include the smoke and dust masks, fire radiative power, and true color imagery.
